With reference to the last paragraph of my Despatch No. 254 of the 14th ultimo, I have now the honour to transmit to you the enclosed statements shewing the actual expenditure on Public Works Extraordinary and on Public Works Recurrent for the first half of the current year and the estimated expenditure under the same for the second half of the year.

These statements differ from those previously sent you, and with the fuller information obtained since are more accurate.

These figures shew that the nett estimated saving on Public Works Extraordinary will only be $115,104 while the excess on Recurrent Works will be $182,250, leaving an excess expenditure of $67,146 on the Estimates for the combined votes.

I also enclose a statement by the Director of Public Works explanatory of the expenditure on Public Works Extraordinary during the current year, together with two letters from Mr. Chatham applying for the additional supplementary votes shewn in the statements and not already reported to you.
